Wolverine Now Officially Lets Players Turn Off Its Most-Hated Feature

The update some Marvel's Wolverine players have been waiting for is finally here. The latest patch for the superhero game gives players the option to turn off directional assist features like scent trails, which should hopefully make the game feel a little less linear.

Marvel's Wolverine is a fairly linear action game, and at many points in the game, players are directed by Wolverine's senses. In-game, these took the form of scent trails that let players know where to find whiskey bottle collectibles, audio cues for material crates, and roots that directed players to doors in Nightmare Trials. While these ensured players didn't get lost, they also fueled complaints about the game's linearity.

Since release, some Marvel's Wolverine players have been calling for Insomniac Games to make features like scent trails optional. Around the time of the game's release, the developer told players it was looking into implementing a toggle for these Wolverine senses. A Sept. 18 update made the senses less visually jarring, and now update 1.001.006, released on Sept. 25, lets players toggle them off entirely.

While some senses Insomniac considers "story-critical" will still appear in the game, players can now go to a dedicated Senses section in Marvel's Wolverine's gameplay settings menu and individually choose which ones to turn off. The patch also addresses some game crashes and fixes bugs that caused players to get stuck, see misaligned claws in photo mode, and think the game used generative AI because of a glitchy bathroom sign.

Fixes overlapping bathroom sign in the casino caused by a UV mapping issue

*Story-critical Senses will still appear in the world.
