From corporate cowardice to a renamed Strait of Hormuz, the news of the nation provides Trey Parker and Matt Stone with no shortage of material.

If you’re getting excited for the premiere of the latest season of South Park on Wednesday night, you’re probably thinking, “How in the hell are they going to top the last two seasons? I mean, South Park won an Emmy, a Peabody, was the first ever animated honoree at this year’s Television Academy Honors.” Then, you’re probably saying, “and then for the last two seasons, it became the first animated show to be included in best episodic comedy at the Producers Guild Awards. And then it was honored by the American Film Institute and the Critics Choice Association.”

Well, we’d tell you that your institutional knowledge of South Park’s recent success is impeccable. But just how could the show’s 29th season possibly best all of that? We can’t help you. No one can, really, because the answer doesn’t exist yet, as the show’s creators and showrunners, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, famously conceive the ideas and write the scripts on the fly in the two-week period before they air. So, best to forget it and enjoy the wild, outrageously satirical ride as it lands. And honestly, we’d think you know that already.

What we can do is wildly speculate based on what we know so far about what Parker and Stone may be scheming. And now that we’ve learned the season will take place in a South Park that has been renamed to “South America,” presumably by the ever-patriotic president, it’s clear that eviscerating takes on Trump, his minions, the corporations who enable him and his legion of followers are all on deck for a drubbing.

Here’s a look at what we may see on this season of South Park… er, South America.

• Trump and the Administration

  

  Over those award-winning recent seasons, President Donald Trump rivaled young Stan as the show’s main character, or at least the one at the center of the main storyline happening outside of South Park. And it was a grotesque, hilarious, ingenious portrayal — that wild micropenis PSAs; a sexually explicit romance with Satan; the Antichrist “butt baby” a scheming J.D. Vance styled as Fantasy Island‘s Tattoo; an over-the-top Pete Hegseth getting into it with everyone; Peggy Rockbottom’s entree into the plot; and a depiction of Peter Thiel.

  The show was so cutting at a time when no one dared to mock our political leaders, so much so that the White House actually responded with a mean girl-style dunk on the show’s ratings and relevance — unbeknownst to the White House comms team, the premiere and its follow-up smashed all prior records. Parker and Stone have openly said this backlash only convinced them to keep going; politics had become pop culture, and the taboo around criticizing the second Trump term was too rich not to mine for the boundary pushers.

  Now, all signs point to season 29 opening as a direct continuation of that impulse, with South Park rebranded as South America. The evidence is structural: the creators write days before air, the stellar two-season run proved the material delivers ratings and controversy, and the entire new season appears to be framed under the renaming gag. And it arrives at a moment when the presidency itself is functionally performative — Trump’s executive orders renaming lakes and straits shared with bordering nations, his midterm-convention taunts, and his ongoing adventures in Iran are framed as both existential threat and personal branding opportunity. South Park will forever retain its audience by interpreting celebrity or institutional power into the vernacular of fourth-grade absurdity. In this moment, that translation involves little exaggeration and more simple documentation.

• Corporate and Tech Capitulation

  

  The pre-premiere logline — “Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google… Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation” — is not a throwaway side joke. This is likely the season’s opening thesis. Apple and Google updated maps to “Lake America” and “Gulf of America,” bowing to pressure from the administration, and Paramount Skydance was born from cronyism and a Trump-approved media mega-merger. Season 28 already treated institutional compliance as comedy via dark-as-hell depictions of ICE raids. Now compliance is baked into the premise, and the show itself has been renamed. The evidence is public: Parker and Stone issuing the statement, Comedy Central’s official materials, and the season’s first episode, titled “South American Biker Gangs,” treating the new name as a fact of the show’s world. The show’s bleeding-edge production model thrives on exactly this kind of real-time corporate cowardice. In 2026, tech platforms and legacy media aren’t just reflectors of powerful institutions; they now anticipate them for user convenience or regulatory survival. That quiet, algorithmic obedience is more revealing — and more South Park — than any single politician’s rhetoric.

• The Iran Conflict and Forever-Wars

  

  By now, the U.S.–Iran conflict is seven months old, the Strait of Hormuz is contested real estate, and the president is, for some reason, claiming victory, floating a renaming of the waterway and tying the conflict’s end date to the midterms. Season 28 already folded contemporary military and immigration theater into the Colorado town’s periodic chaos. This season’s production schedule — dropping every two weeks through late November — gives Parker and Stone multiple openings into whatever escalation, oil-price spike, or “Trump Strait” announcement dominates the news cycle. The show has never ignored an active American war, especially one that doubles as a branding exercise, and Parker and Stone have said the administration’s mixture of spectacle and force is their richest material. The cultural relevance is obvious: Americans are again living inside a distant conflict that arrives as both casualty reports and presidential performance, with energy prices, midterm politics, and national self-image all tangled together. Presenting that tangle as utter nonsense is and will remain South Park’s bread and butter.

• Canada and the Trade Deficit

  

  In 2000, at the 72nd Academy Awards, Trey Parker and Matt Stone arrived at the ceremony wearing famous dresses previously worn by Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow (later, they said they were on LSD on the red carpet). That night, Robin Williams belted their Oscar-nominated song from South Park: “Bigger, Longer & Uncut” to all of Hollywood, in front of a cartoon backdrop, accompanied by a chorus and, in the big finale, his arms linked with can-can dancers. “Blame Canada” brought down the house but lost the award to a Phil Collins song. As Colorado natives, Parker and Stone can hardly resist sending South Park‘s action up north to Canada — they’ve even othered the citizens of the Great White North on the show with distinct flapping heads, exaggerated accents, and a too-folksy delivery. Now, with Canada standing up to the Trump administration over tariffs and the president’s reaction to the $27 billion trade imbalance, expect Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to get the South Park treatment at some point this season. And if the show delves into the midterm elections and the fact that Canada’s steep retaliatory tariffs are squeezing red states with crucial Senate races, the topic feels too ripe for the show not to spoof. Maybe we’ll even hear a sequel to “Blame Canada”?

• Geographic Renaming as National Branding

  

  Trump’s second term has treated cartography as content: Gulf of Mexico → Gulf of America, Lake Ontario → Lake America, a floated “Trump Strait” for Hormuz, even “New America” for New Mexico. Season 29’s entire promotional apparatus — logo, website, episode title, synopsis — adopts “South America” as the new official name of the town. This isn’t speculation; it’s the text of the premiere. The show is doing what it always does with linguistic power: taking a presidential affectation and forcing every character, every parent, every street to live inside it until the absurdity becomes inescapable. Renaming has become a low-cost, high-visibility assertion of dominance — part sovereignty theater, part meme, part trade-war flex against Canada and Iran. In an era when maps update faster than legislation, the ability to rewrite the landscape itself feels like the purest expression of executive will. South Park simply made the rewrite local and irreversible for six episodes.
