Samsung Galaxy A57 5G

Table of Contents

The Galaxy A57 5G is Samsung’s latest midrange phone, and Amazon currently has the 256GB model for $509.99, down from $609.99. At that price, it becomes a more reasonable alternative to Samsung’s pricier Galaxy S phones, particularly if you care more about a good screen, long battery life, and plenty of storage than having the fastest processor or top-end performance available.

Its 6.7-inch AMOLED display has a 120Hz refresh rate, so scrolling through apps, browsing the web, and moving around Android should all feel fluid, while the Full HD+ resolution is plenty sharp for streaming, reading, and everyday use. Samsung has also kept the phone fairly slim despite the large screen, and its IP68 rating gives you some reassurance around dust, rain, and accidental splashes.

Performance-wise, its Exynos 1680 chip and 8GB of RAM are enough for messaging, social media, streaming, navigation, and regular multitasking, but this is not the phone I would buy for demanding games or heavy performance workloads. On the other hand, its battery life is easier to get excited about, since the 5,000mAh battery should comfortably last through a typical day.

What do you think so far?

You also get a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization, joined by a 12MP ultrawide and 5MP macro camera, giving you enough flexibility for everyday photos without positioning the A57 as a camera-first phone (though photography is not the reason I would choose this over something like a Pixel). Samsung’s long support window adds more value if you plan to keep the phone for several years, with six generations of operating-system upgrades and six years of security updates promised for the A57, according to this PCMag review.
