Tom Holland has teased a return of the Venom Symbiote, as the hours count down to the launch of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Asked by a young fan if Holland's Spider-Man would ever encounter the Symbiote, Holland said he couldn't answer the question directly — but added that the moment would come "one day, I'm sure."
"We'll get to see the Symbiote," Holland continued, in a moment posted to Instagram by cinempolismx.
Could the Symbiote appear in Brand New Day? It's a question that fans have been debating ever since the movie's first trailer showed Holland's webslinger emerging from a sticky cocoon, with mention that he was undergoing some form of transformation.
Remember, of course, that Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded with a brief shot of the Symbiote — or a part of it — being left behind in the MCU following that film's various multiversal shenanigans. The possibility is certainly there for more from the Symbiote, and many fans see Holland donning a black Symbiote suit as inevitable before he ends his run.
With Brand New Day already stuffed full of foes, the only question seems to be when the Symbiote storyline will be adapted. Could Holland be infected at the end of Brand New Day, with the transformation happening off-screen — potentially explaining his absence in this year's Avengers: Doomsday? That could leave him ready and powered-up to make a triumphant return in 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars.
Alternatively, the widely-expected future films in Holland's second trilogy of Spider-Man movies could center on the Symbiote — perhaps changing Peter Parker's personality just as his identity is restored in the memories of best pal Ned and ex-girlfriend MJ. Let's just hope this incarnation of Peter Parker leaves the dance moves at home, though.
With previews early next week and its official July 31 release date fast approaching, Holland is currently in the middle of a whirlwind Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour, and proving as chatty as ever. Yesterday, Holland raised eyebrows by flatly denying Jean Grey was in the movie — despite huge speculation that this is who Sadie Sink is playing. The actor has also teased that the movie's title will be explained in its final frame (intriguing!), revealed that "one person" still remembers Peter Parker is Spider-Man (Sadie Sink?) and discussing his potential involvement in the upcoming Avengers movies — which he strongly suggested he will feature in.
