Overview

Everything that makes the nonhybrid GV80 one of our favorite luxury SUVs carries over to the hybrid version, including a decadent cabin and contemporary infotainment and safety tech. Three rows of seats are standard, and while the rearmost row is a space best suited for kids, the GV80’s interior is otherwise roomy and comfortable.

Expert Tip: The GV80 Hybrid joins a growing market of mid-size luxury SUVs with gas-electric powertrains, and it’s a competitive bunch that includes winners such as the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, the Mercedes-Benz GLE450e, and the Volvo XC90 T8.

What's New for 2027?

While the three-row GV80 has been a fixture in the luxury SUV segment for several years, the GV80 Hybrid is new for 2027. To differentiate it from the nonhybrid, Genesis has given it a unique grille and wheel designs. So far, there's no word on whether the two-row Coupe body style will also be available in hybrid form.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Hybrid Powertrain: turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors, 347 hp combined
Transmission: 7-speed automatic
Drivetrains: rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive

A turbocharged four-cylinder and a pair of electric motors combine for 347 horsepower and drive either the rear or all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission. Genesis engineered the transmission without a reverse gear, instead opting to utilize the electric motors to back the GV80 Hybrid up.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: The GV80’s cabin is first class, highly stylish, and swathed in top-grade materials. Even the lower trims boast posh features like burled wood trim, metal brightwork, and the brand’s mood curator, which adjusts the lighting, sound, and scent of the cabin to match the driver’s selected mood. The 27.0-inch dash display looks clean and contemporary, the front seats are comfortable and supportive, and the driver’s chair is available with a massage function.

Second Row: All trims come with a three-across bench for the second row. Legroom is plentiful back there.

Third Row: A third row of seats is standard on the GV80, but it's difficult to access, and space is tight.

Cargo Capacity: The GV80 has a lot of storage space, more so in the standard model than in the Coupe. We fit 13 carry-on suitcases behind the regular GV80's second row and 28 behind the first. With the optional third row in place, though, cargo capacity behind the rearmost seat shrinks to almost nothing.

Genesis combines the GV80’s infotainment screen and gauge cluster into one 27.0-inch OLED display perched atop a sleek and simple dashboard. Every GV80 also comes with wireless smartphone charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Genesis provides one of the most generous standard safety suites in the class. Every GV80 gets blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with a hands-free driving mode.

Genesis covers the GV80 Hybrid with an exceptional warranty and complimentary scheduled maintenance. The luxury brand also offers a valet service where it will pick up and drop off the vehicle for maintenance visits and provide a loaner Genesis model for use in the meantime.
